Many of the social issues about Comparative Genomics revolve around animal rights. Since the majority of the subjects of these studies are animals such as chimpanzees, mice, rats, and pufferfish, people would say that the experiments being done should be considered animal abuse. But is it really? The purpose of these experiments is to learn more about ourselves and how the similarities between us and them can benefit both ways. While some people would argue that this is unjust and cruel, other would argue that it's a necessary practice in order to better understand the human race.

It wouldn't be all that surprising if ethical issues were to arise because of this practice.

It's a definite possibility when it comes to which race is more like a certain organism. If one race is more like a dominant animal than another race is, the superior race could use that infomation as reason to perhaps want more influence in the making universal decisions. The inferior races would be at the bottom of the food chain as the inferior animals or organisms would be as well.

Many of the legal issues with the subject of comparative genomics revolve around people having the right to keep their genome and genetic information private. The legal and social issues are mainly issues of privacy and consent of the information. Society wants to know what their genomes are being used for, and they believe that they have the right to know. Though some people would argue that its better not to know because it could cause superiority and inferiority issues among certain races .

What are the Thoughts of Modern Society?
